Directional and wayfinding signs for businesses and events

Directional signs help people find parking, entrances, restrooms, departments and exits without having to ask. For a business they reduce confusion and keep traffic moving; for an event they point guests to registration, seating and vendors.

Where directional signs are used

  • Parking lots and building entrances
  • Office suites, clinics and lobbies
  • Trade shows, fairs and community events
  • Warehouses and industrial sites

Materials

Permanent directional signs are commonly made from routed PVC, metal or acrylic, while temporary event directions work well as banners or adhesive vinyl graphics. Our sign materials guide explains the differences.

Part of a larger project? Pair directional signs with a monument sign at the entrance and interior office signage inside. Browse all of our signs or request a quote.

How to plan directional signs

Walk the route as a first-time visitor would, starting at the street or the parking lot. Every spot where a person has to decide which way to go needs a sign. Place signs at eye level or where drivers can read them in time to turn, and repeat the same symbols, colors and wording throughout so people learn the system quickly.

Frequently asked questions

How large should the lettering be? The farther the reader, the larger the text. Signs read from a moving car need much larger letters than signs read from a hallway, and a high contrast between text and background always helps.

Do outdoor directional signs need a permit? Often yes, depending on the city and the size and position of the sign. We handle permitting for sign projects, so tell us the address and we will point you in the right direction.

Can I match my existing branding? Yes. We can use your logo, brand colors and fonts so directional signs look like part of the same family as your main sign.
